La Doble Nelson is a Berlin-based (and formed) Cumbia band with members from Argentina, Chile, Perú, The Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Taking influence from different Cumbia-Sounds like Colombian, Peruvian and from their respective upbringings, La Doble Nelson has created their own Sound while still interpreting the Cumbia classics everybody knows and loves.

The “Fête de la Musique” celebrates music worldwide on June 21 – the beginning of summer and the longest day of the year – and is open to anyone who wants to participate. All kinds of musicians – young and old, amateur and professional, any musical orientation and genres – take to the streets, squares and parks to share their music with friends, neighbors and strangers.

La Santa & Maldita is a self-organized event that we started last summer to offer an integral experience of a cumbión. We had the pleasure of having our beloved DJs: Niña Silvestre, Holy Mami and La Mangle.

La Doble Nelson is a cumbia band based and formed in Berlin with members from Argentina, Chile, Peru, Holland, Spain, and Germany. Within the repertoire we explore we incorporate traditional Colombian music, Peruvian chicha, and Argentinean cumbia villera. We try to honor the beautiful sound of cumbia in the most authentic way possible, being faithful to the style of each region and with a typical form of the most popular cumbia ensembles.

In this search for authenticity, we have been incorporating members and typical instruments such as a variety of percussion and winds.

Cumbia is for us not only a musical style but also a cultural phenomenon that in many of us is rooted and linked to experiences that connect us with a much wider world than a mere musical show. The connection with the body through dance and the experience of an integral cultural event where a large part of the community participates for the simple fact of celebrating are some of the reasons that lead us to play and share this music with the rest of the community that loves and enjoys this music, but also the context where the project was born gives us the possibility to connect with cultures that have not been exposed to cumbia such as the city of Berlin.
